Research tells us that the most successful individuals are those with positive, social, people skills and understanding. The goal of my programming is to help your children develop the motivation, conversation, social skills and understanding needed to have positive, effective and lasting relationships with their peers and community members.

My programming is designed for all children who are at risk in peer relationship development. They would include children with Giftedness, High Functioning Autism, ADD, Turner Syndrome, Non Verbal LD and Asperger’s, as well as children with no diagnosis in place. I have a cross-disciplinary Masters Degree in Integrated Special Education and Health. For the past nine years I have been running my Step Up To Social Skills Program! classes out of my Vancouver office. For many parents this model has proven extremely successful and my classes will continue to operate from there. For others because of time, distance and other family commitments this approach has not worked. It is because of this and the many requests that I have received throughout BC and across Canada and the US that I have developed my new model of delivery.

New Model: Like the delivery of ABA (applied behaviour analysis) or RDI (relationship development intervention), the new model is a home/community based model. In this model I will be working with children and young adults from ages 8 to 19.

My Responsibilities:

As your social skills consultant I will come to your home to meet with you and your child. I will be there for approximately two hours to assess your child’s social skills and to prepare and write modules for your interventionist to deliver. I will be bringing these teaching modules with me to the first training session.

Training: I will spend a day training you, your home based team and school aides to deliver the programming. I will leave you with one month’s worth of programming. Your team will have session evaluation forms to fill out after each session that I will review before the next meeting in one month.

Supervision: Over the course of the month I will be available via email or phone to answer any questions that come up around the delivery of the programming. I will then be on a monthly schedule of visits to your home to work with your team and your child to optimize the programming and to deliver new units to teach. These monthly visits will be for approximately 2 hours with your team and your child and 1 hour to work and meet just with your team for a total of 3 hours. The frequency of these home visits will be reduced as you become comfortable with what is happening with your child and the progress that is being made.
