My work in Advocacy includes a number of components. It begins with first listening to the needs of families, researching backgrounds and precedence, creating strategies and plans, facilitating those strategies and plans, representing the families needs to schools, community or government, following up with letters and phone calls, and making sure that appropriate processes for accountability are in place to ensure ongoing success.
Sometimes clients have been through the mentorship process or are already advocating on their own behalf but just need some additional support. In these cases I am available to facilitate any of the steps that they need assistance with. It may be to write a specific letter or to facilitate a meeting between themselves and a school principal. This area of my services is completely client driven and responsive.
Advocacy is a fluid process where support may be ongoing and geared specifically to each individual case. This support may be accomplished by simple phone calls or e-mails and may also include monthly review meetings.
